Sunday, 9/13/09

Off again this a.m. Yesterday we did 186 miles and took 5 1/2 hours. Today we went a little more than 200 hours, left at 9:30 and got here about 3. The scenery has been amazing. Yesterday windy mtn. roads. Today less climbing and curving. Went through lots of orchards, apples & pears, packing plants and then drove by wheat fields. Followed the Skagit River for a numer of miles. We pulled in to the Grand Coulee Dam to check it out too.
We drove in to Spokane and thought we would try and tour a bit...but with 30+ feet and the car in tow, there weren't many parking spots. So on to Idaho. Coeur d'Alene is only about 30 minutes from Spokane. Tomorrow we think we will go back to Spokane and ride the gondola over the falls in town.
We are now at an Elk's Lodge Rv camp. What a deal, $15 a night with hook ups. (we have been paying $37 on average per night) Pretty nice spot. We drove in to town for dinner out tonight.
Also talked to a retired firefighter friend who lives here in town, Blake Garland, and we will try and meet up with him tomorrow.
That's it for today. Will post some pics of the last campground, in Winthrop and then sights along the road today.
